AXION 900 TERRA TRAC available in two models

After unveiling the prototype at Agritechnica 2017, CLAAS is now releasing two versions of its unique half-track tractors with full suspension for the 2020 season – the AXION 960 TERRA TRAC and 930 TERRA TRAC.

AXION 900 TERRA TRAC - the first half-track tractor with full suspension

CLAAS introduces the AXION 960 TERRA TRAC (445 hp / 327 kW) and AXION 930 TERRA TRAC (355 hp / 261 kW) – the first half-track tractors with full suspension. The key innovation is the inclusion of the suspended TERRA TRAC crawler track system, based on technology that CLAAS has been using in combine harvesters for more than 20 years. The TERRA TRAC half-track tractor concept offers a wealth of flexibility. It delivers high tractive power whatever the soil conditions or terrain and at the same time, allows trailed or attached implements to be used at very low operating speeds.
With suspended crawler tracks and suspended front axle, the AXION 900 TERRA TRAC combines the advantages of a tracklaying tractor in terms of traction and soil protection with the comfort of a conventional standard tractor. Thanks to its individually suspended rollers, the TERRA TRAC crawler track system guarantees optimum ground contact and maximum contact area at all times. This makes the AXION 900 TERRA TRAC a comfortable and efficient drive on the road and in the field, even when travelling at high speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Crawler tracks fully integrated with steering assistance

The rear axle of the AXION has been substantially modified to accommodate the TERRA TRAC crawler tracks. Specially designed supports for the TERRA TRAC have been installed in place of the axle funnel supporting the rear wheels. These supports bridge the height difference, allow a total pendulum range of 23° and protect the drive shaft. To make them suitable for tractors, the TERRA TRAC crawler tracks have also been specially adapted to the requirements of heavy traction work; the transmission inside the crawler tracks has been strengthened to transmit higher torques and the size of the drive wheel has been increased. Specially designed friction blocks on the drive wheel reliably transfer drive forces to the track belt and at the same time ensure thorough self-cleaning of the contact surfaces. Thanks to an intelligent drive control system, the crawler tracks are capable of performing tight turning manoeuvres. The driver can activate steering assistance in CEBIS to adjust the degree of assistance.

Four track widths with an external width under three meters

The AXION 900 TERRA TRAC is available with track widths of 18“ (457 mm), 25“ (635 mm), 29“ (735 mm) and 35“ (890 mm). With all four track widths, the external width of the tractor remains within the three-meter transport width limit. The AXION TERRA TRAC has an operating weight of 16.5 t. Allowing for a permitted gross vehicle weight of 22 t, this gives it a load capacity of 5.5 t.
With TERRA TRAC crawler tracks it is possible to adjust the tractor’s ground clearance. Different heights within a range of 120 mm can very easily be set in CEBIS.  This enables the traction point of an attached implement to be set in the optimum position above the height of the hitching point, for example.
As well as integrating the TERRA TRAC crawler tracks, CLAAS has also modified the design and position of the fuel tank. It now has a capacity of 860 litres, ideal for long working days.
